Job Announcement – GCT Administrator and Outreach Coordinator

The Groton Conservation Trust (GCT), a local non-profit organization with more than 1,500 acres of conserved land, is seeking a 20 hour/week staff person with strong interest in the environment to serve as this organization’s first paid staff employee, beginning as soon as possible. Reporting to the President of the Board of Trustees and working primarily at the Land Trust’s office in Groton, this person will support and administer the organization’s activities and initiatives, while partnering with the Board (and key-subcommittees) to carry out strategic programming goals. A significant part of the work will include communicating with and coordinating the work of GCT volunteers. The ideal candidate will be motivated by GCT’s mission of enhancing the quality of life in our community through environmental conservation and engaging residents in the enjoyment and stewardship of our remarkable natural landscapes. The candidate will be able to handle multiple responsibilities and prioritize work independently, relating well to members, trustees and volunteers.

Management and administrative responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  1. Developing outreach, engagement and communication strategies, further strengthening the GCT brand. This person will work with the Membership/Communications committee growing membership, organizing educational and outdoor activities and providing a visible and professional presence for the Trust in Town, collaborating with local and regional environmental organizations.
  2. Working with the Stewardship Committee  to execute on key goals including:
    1. Increasing the communication with and coordination of GCT volunteers, to facilitate some of our key land management initiatives, including regular monitoring of our properties, coordinating property improvement projects, stewardship of trails and the like
    2. Prioritizing land management plans and overseeing key land management initiatives
    3. Assisting in land conservation projects that may arise
  3. Working with the Finance Committee, including
    1. Maintaining files and archives
    2. Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
    3. Keeping donor financial records and database current
  4. Working with the Nominations /Governance Committee including
    1. Improving GCT organization procedures
    2. Ensuring compliance with employee requirements and procedures

Job Skills and Experience Required

  • Background in environmental science and/or land management or willingness to learn these critical skills
  • Good public presence and ability to work easily and effectively with Trustees, volunteers and the public

Helpful Job Skills and Experience

  • Member Database management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Able to learn specialized GCT application software
  • Knowledge of basic bookkeeping and Quickbooks
  • Familiarity with Groton

Time Requirements

  • 20 hours per week ( at a rate of $25/hours )
  • Regular office hours at least part of the week
  • Attend evening GCT monthly meetings and critical Committee meetings
  • Attend and assist at GCT events as required
