Groton’s Fern Gully

Posted on June 16, 2024 by Susan Hughes

Right now at Hayes Woods the ferns are on display. A well marked 1.5 mile loop walk follows upland woods and marshes with boardwalks flanked in various ferns. Using the Seek app, we identified these. See how many types you can find.

Karen Mulligan: What a GCT Endowment Fund Gift Means to Us

"I have always enjoyed tromping around the trails in Groton, but I became very familiar with our open spaces during COVID.
When the shut down began, Susan (Hughes) and I began by taking daily walks around our neighborhood parcel, Fitch-Woods as a "sanity check". We would drive separately, don our masks if we saw anyone else, even tried to stay 6 feet from each other. We joked that it was when we solved all the world's problems, but it did solve one big problem for us: staying connected. I began to appreciate the time, effort and care that goes into creating these beautiful areas for us to enjoy, and how important this work is.When the time came to support the Endowment Campaign to make sure this land is protected forever, I donated immediately. Having this nature escape meant so much to me when I needed it most. I am happy to support the GCT, and happy that we all can count on them to protect our natural resources."
